About Us

We are a family-owned & operated business. Simon completed his apprenticeship and is fully qualified in Automotive Engineering (heavy equipment) in Rangiora and went on to the role of workshop foreman for Advantage Ford Rangiora. Northern Tractors Services was established in 1996 following the closure of Advantage Ford Rangiora, Simon started up on his own maintaining & repairing the machines of clients.

As a qualified mechanic and handy with engineering, it wasn’t long before he needed to employ staff to keep up with demand.

In 2002 we were lucky to be introduced to the Valtra product and were quickly impressed with the build quality and ease of servicing. We became an Agco dealer in 2017 focusing on the Valtra product and haven’t looked back. With great sales, a fantastic product & innovations coming through, it’s exciting times for our business.

Nowadays, with a competent team both in the workshop & the field, Simon focuses mostly on sales and managing the business but is still involved with the training of apprentices and puts his overalls on when required. He still enjoys getting his hands dirty, problem-solving & keeping up with the new technology.

Here at Northern Tractor Services Ltd we still do everything, from basic services to engine overhauls, transmissions, clutches, repairs to farm Utes, loaders, diggers & general engineering both on-farm or in our fully equipped workshop. As they say, “No job is too big or too small”.

Simon Moir

Managing Director. (Owner, Sales/Service)
Simon has 40 years’ experience as a mechanic and engineer, he is a talented problem solver and his vast experience, knowledge & interest in all facets of machinery, on farm & off, is invaluable.
Richard Bowler

Parts & Service Manager.
Richard has now been with us for over 20 years & has a vast knowledge of the industry from the latest T-Series Valtra to sourcing an oil filter for a Ford 5000. He is an experienced diesel technician.

Richard loves the out-doors, whether it is fishing the Twizel canals or hunting for a stag in the alps.
Todd Couch

Qualified Diesel Technician.
Todd completed his apprenticeship here & stayed on to be a senior technician and mentor to other apprentices.
Todd has recently been to visit the Valtra factory in Finland and has experienced just how passionate they are about the product and the attention to detail which makes Valtra stand out from the rest.
Todd has variety of interests including rugby league, hunting, diving, fishing, and practical jokes.

Scott White

Qualified Diesel Technician.
Scott completed his apprenticeship here & has stayed on to be a senior technician.
Scott has been a valuable addition to our staff, he has a vast knowledge of the Valtra product and experience driving machinery on farm.
Scott has a variety of interests including hunting, fishing & general outdoor activities.
Jackson Singh

Apprentice Technician.
Jackson has been with us since mid-2021 and is completing his apprenticeship as an Automotive Diesel Technician.
Jackson is also an outdoors man and has a passion for pig hunting & free diving.
Kyle Gamble

Apprentice Technician.
Kyle has been with us since mid-2022 and is completing his apprenticeship as an Automotive Diesel Technician. Kyle’s father has 6 Valtra’s in his contracting fleet, so Kyle has experience driving Valtra either baling, mowing or raking.
Like the rest of our team Kyle is an outdoor man and enjoys motorcross riding, rugby, hunting & fishing.
